What is Assistive Technology (AT)?
It’s basically any tool that helps people with disabilities do things more easily on their own.
Think of it like this:
How about computers that you can control with your eyes? That’s high-tech assistive technology! It helps people who can’t use their hands use a computer.
Ever seen a spoon with a bigger handle? That’s
assistive technology! It helps someone with a weak grip eat more easily.
What is QIAT?
QIAT, or Quality Indicators for Assistive Technology, provides guidelines to help schools deliver high-quality assistive technology services to students with disabilities. These guidelines cover important areas like assessing student needs, including AT in educational plans, and ensuring effective implementation and support. The QIAT Community, which includes educators and families, collaborates to continuously improve these guidelines and share helpful resources. The aim is to improve educational outcomes for students with disabilities by ensuring they get the AT services they need. For more details, visit the QIAT website.
