This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the key laws and regulations governing the provision of Assistive Technology (AT) devices and services in educational settings, from birth to age 21. Participants will explore the historical development of these laws, including early education and civil rights legislation, and delve into specific acts such as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The course also covers recent developments, including the 21st Century AT Act and state-level legislation, while emphasizing the importance of collaboration between AT programs and state education agencies. By the end of the course, participants will have a solid foundation in the legal framework that supports AT services and understand how to apply this knowledge in practice.
